Day 1. Farap Border — Ancient Merv — Ashgabat

• The Journey Begins: 09:00 AM — Meeting at the Turkmen side of the Farap (Alat) border crossing. We provide full assistance with all formalities, ensuring you immerse yourself in the adventure immediately.

• Legends of the Oasis: A direct drive to the legendary Merv oasis (approx. 250 km). Before our grand exploration, enjoy an authentic lunch at a local teahouse in Bayramaly.

• The Majesty of Ancient Merv (UNESCO):

  • Sultan Sanjar Mausoleum: A 12th-century architectural masterpiece that was once the tallest building in the Islamic world.

  • Greater and Lesser Kyz-Kala: Iconic “corrugated” mud-brick fortresses, frozen in the desert sands.

  • Shrines of the Ashabs: Visit the sacred burial sites of the Prophet Muhammad’s companions.

  • Secrets of the Past: Explore ancient communal hammams and sardobas — ingenious desert water storage systems.

Day 2. Ashgabat — Balkanabat (The Romance of the Rails)

• Rhythm of the Rails: At 17:40, we board the overnight train to Balkanabat — a time for the romance of the rails and rest before our encounter with nature.

Day 3. Balkanabat — Yangykala Canyon — Nokhur — Kov-Ata — Ashgabat

• Dawn in the Canyon: Arrive in Balkanabat at 04:07 AM and transfer by 4×4 vehicles into the surreal Yangykala valley.

• The “Fiery Fortresses” of Yangykala: Explore the incredible rose-red canyons. This is one of Central Asia’s most photogenic spots, often compared to the landscapes of Mars.

• Into the Kopetdag Mountains: Head east to the colourful village of Nokhur. See the famous cemetery adorned with mountain goat horns and discover the traditions of local silk weavers.

• The Magic of Kov-Ata: Descend 60 metres underground to a hidden thermal lake. The naturally warm water (36°C) is the ultimate way to relax after an eventful day.

• Overnight: Return to Ashgabat for a restful night at your hotel.

Day 4. Ashgabat — Darvaza Gas Crater

• Final Capital Touches: A morning stroll through Ashgabat, visiting hidden gems you may have missed.

• Into the Karakum: After lunch, we strike north into the heart of the desert (270 km).

• Desert Bubbles: Stops at the Water and Mud craters — unique and strange natural phenomena.

• The Magic of Darvaza: Arrival at the “Gates of Hell.” Sunset here is a spectacle you will never forget.

• Dinner by the Flame: An open-air BBQ dinner right at the edge of the blazing abyss. After dark, the crater becomes truly magnetic.

Day 5. Darvaza — Kunya-Urgench — Border Crossing
