Tour Programme

Day 1: Arrival in Ashgabat — The Marble Oasis of the Future

Meet your private guide at the futuristic Ashgabat International Airport. Following a seamless transfer to your hotel to settle in and refresh, the journey begins at the magnificent ruins of the ancient royal fortress. Walk through the atmospheric site that once shaped the destinies of the ancient world.

Next, visit the stunning mosque in Kipchak, a monumental white marble structure where magnificent golden domes meet the blue sky. This is followed by a visit to a private equestrian farm to meet the legendary Akhal-Teke horses — the famous ‘heavenly steeds’ renowned for their breathtaking metallic golden coats. Conclude the day with an evening tour of Ashgabat’s Guinness Record-breaking landmarks, including the soaring Arch of Neutrality, the grand Independence Park, and the Alem Cultural and Entertainment Centre.

  • Overnight: Ashgabat.

Day 2: Ashgabat → Ancient Merv → Ashgabat — Journey to the ‘Mother of the World’

Take an early domestic flight east to Mary, followed by a direct transfer to the Ancient Merv archaeological park. Immerse yourself in what was once one of the greatest metropolises of the medieval Silk Road.

Key highlights of the guided excursion include the Mausoleum of Sultan Sanjar, a masterpiece of 12th-century engineering featuring a brilliant, seemingly hovering double dome; the deeply revered sacred tombs showcasing refined Timurid-era architecture; and the iconic ‘corrugated’ mud-brick walls of Kyz Kala, which once guarded rich merchant caravans. Transfer back to Mary airport for your evening flight back to the capital.

  • Overnight: Ashgabat.

Day 3: Ashgabat → Darvaza — Across the Karakum to the Fiery Abyss

The morning features a cultural visit to the National Carpet Museum, home to a massive, record-breaking hand-woven masterpiece, followed by a stroll through the vibrant Russian Bazaar to enjoy the authentic aromas of local spices. After midday, leave the city behind and venture deep into the legendary Karakum Desert in a comfortable 4×4 vehicle.

En route, pause to explore two fascinating wilderness phenomena: the turquoise Water Crater and the bubbling Mud Crater. Arrive at the Darvaza Gas Crater just as twilight sets in. As the sun sinks below the dunes, the roaring flames of the fiery abyss illuminate the desert sky, creating an otherworldly, dramatic landscape. Enjoy a traditional open-fire barbecue dinner and sleep under a canopy of endless stars in an authentic yurt camp near the crater.

  • Overnight: Yurt camp in the desert.

Day 4: Darvaza → Konye-Urgench → Dashoguz / Borders — The Legacy of Ancient Khwarazm

Wake up to the serene beauty of a desert sunrise. Following breakfast at the camp, travel north towards the historic region of Khwarazm to explore the spectacular architectural monuments of the former capital of the vast Khwarazmian Empire. Stand before the soaring, 60-metre-tall Kutlug-Timur Minaret and admire the exquisite, intricate tilework inside the dome of the Turabek-Khanum Mausoleum. You will also visit the legendary Kirk Molla hill, a historic citadel site steeped in local lore.
