Take a morning flight to the Caspian coast to explore Turkmenbashi and admire the breathtaking, fiery-red cliffs of Yangykala Canyon. Discover the isolated mountain culture of Nohur, swim in the warm thermal sulfur waters of the underground Kow-Ata lake, and view the magnificent monuments of white-marbled Ashgabat. Day 1: Shavat Border – Dashoguz – Darvaza Gas Crater

• 10:00 (Approximate) | Meet & Greet at Shavat Border: Your adventure begins right on the Turkmen side of the border terminal. While you go through migration and passport control, our local guide will meet you directly in the hall using your photograph, ensuring you feel in safe hands right from the start.

• Dashoguz Stop: A short drive into the city for a hearty traditional lunch. A mandatory highlight is the vibrant local market, where you can soak up the colourful atmosphere and stock up on snacks and water for the long journey ahead through the desert.

• Desert Journey: Set course for Darvaza! We face roughly 300 km of thrilling travel (about 4 to 4.5 hours) across the vast sands of the Central Karakum Desert. Prepare for a genuine off-road drive: parts of the track are uneven and bumpy, making it a true desert safari adventure.

• Darvaza Gas Crater (“Radiance of the Karakum”): The climax of the day — arrival at the mesmerising, eternally burning gas crater. Watch the desert sunset as the fiery glow of the crater intensifies against the twilight.

• Evening & Dinner: Time for some soul-soothing relaxation! Our team will prepare a traditional open-air barbecue dinner at the yurt camp. Nighttime offers ideal photography opportunities as the blazing crater glows brightly under the starry desert canopy.

• Overnight: Accommodation in a traditional Turkmen yurt right at the edge of the fiery abyss.

Day 2: Darvaza Gas Crater – Ashgabat

• Sunrise Experience: Visit the rim of the crater before dawn to experience the surreal morning light and capture the last flickering tongues of flame against the waking desert.

• Breakfast & Departure: Enjoy a fresh breakfast at the yurt camp, pack your belongings, and head south across the Karakum Desert towards the futuristic capital of Ashgabat (~270 km, about 3.5 hours). Expect another exciting off-road safari along the bumpy tracks of the wild desert.

• Desert Crater Stops: On the way, strap in for short yet striking stops to explore the surreal Water Crater and the bubbling Mud Crater, witnessing the fascinating geological wonders of the desert firsthand.

• Lunch: Enjoy a hearty lunch break upon arrival in welcoming Ashgabat.

• Ashgabat City Tour: A guided sightseeing tour of the white-marble capital. Discover signature architecture, historical monuments, and cultural landmarks tailored to your pace.

Day 3: Ashgabat – Turkmenbashi (Flight) – Yangykala Canyon – Balkan Region

• Morning Flight to the Caspian Coast: Start the day with an early hotel check-out and a short morning flight from Ashgabat to the coastal city of Turkmenbashi (flight time around 1 hour). Upon arrival, meet your professional driver right at the airport.

• Turkmenbashi & Avaza Highlights: Enjoy a brief introductory tour of this historic port city. View unique pre-revolutionary architecture built from Caspian limestone, admire the beautiful 1895 railway station in Moorish style, and take in scenic views of the Caspian Sea. Optional: An excursion to the nearby Avaza marine resort can be arranged upon request, subject to seasonal zone availability.

• Lunch: Savour fresh seafood or a traditional lunch at a local restaurant.

• Drive to Yangykala Canyon: Depart Turkmenbashi and head east towards the breathtaking Yangykala Canyon (~160 km, about 3 hours). Prepare for a final picturesque stretch along rugged, unpaved desert tracks.

• Yangykala Sunset Experience: Arrive at the canyon plateau. Explore the vast, fiery-red limestone formations that shift colours before your eyes, and watch a truly cosmic sunset over this dramatic landscape.

• Dinner: Depending on the season and weather, enjoy a picnic dinner right on the canyon edge or a warm dinner upon arrival at your destination.

• Drive to Hotel: Travel south from the canyon plateau to your hotel in the Balkan Region (about 2 to 2.5 hours to the nearest hub).

• Overnight: Accommodation in the Balkan Region (Balkanabat or surrounding transit hubs depending on availability).

Day 4: Balkan Region – Nohur – Kow-Ata – Ashgabat

• 08:30: Depart the hotel and drive east along the highway running parallel to the Kopetdag mountain range. Start your morning with a scenic journey past majestic mountain peaks.

• Nohur Mountain Village: Take a picturesque detour along a mountain road to the isolated tribal village of Nohur. • Kow-Ata Underground Lake: Descend into the deep limestone cave of the famous Kow-Ata underground lake (about 1 hour away). Venture underground for a unique, relaxing swim in naturally warm, mineral-rich thermal sulfur waters (maintaining a constant 35°C all year round).

• Return to Ashgabat: Drive the final stretch back to the capital (~100 km, about 1.5 hours) along a smooth modern highway.

• Dinner: Relax and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant in Ashgabat.

Day 5: Ashgabat – Ancient Merv – Farab Border

• 07:30 AM: Morning departure from Ashgabat. Set off east along the Ashgabat–Mary autobahn. Enjoy a smooth and comfortable ride through changing landscapes (~360 km, approximately 3.5 to 4 hours).

• Lunch: Arrive in the Mary Region and enjoy a traditional lunch at a local restaurant in Mary or Bayramaly.

• Ancient Merv Tour: Immerse yourself in UNESCO World Heritage grandeur! Explore key historical highlights of the Ancient Merv archaeological park via a streamlined route:

  • Sultan Sanjar Mausoleum: A 12th-century Seljuk masterpiece featuring a legendary double-dome construction.

  • Greater and Lesser Kyz-Kala: Famous corrugated mud-brick desert strongholds (7th–12th centuries).

  • Ashab Mausoleums and Ancient Sardoba: Visit sacred burial sites of Prophet Muhammad’s companions, alongside nearby medieval public bathhouses and elaborate desert water storage systems (Sardoba).

• Arrival at Farab Border Post: After dinner, take a short drive to the 24-hour Farab-Alat border crossing (~40 km, approximately 40 minutes).
