Day 1: Shavat Border → Dashoguz → Darvaza Gas Crater

• 10:00 | Welcome to Turkmenistan: Your adventure begins at the Turkmen side of the Shavat Border Checkpoint, where our team will meet and greet you.

• A Taste of the North & Local Flavours: We take a short drive to Dashoguz for an authentic traditional lunch. Afterwards, immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the local market — the perfect spot to soak up regional culture and organise snacks and supplies for your desert journey.

• Into the Karakum Desert: We set off towards Darvaza, embarking on a scenic five-hour expedition (~300 km) across the heart of the vast Central Karakum Desert.

• The Gates of Hell at Sunset: Arrive at the legendary Darvaza Gas Crater. Watch the sun drop below the horizon as the desert is bathed in golden light and the fiery crater’s glow begins to intensify.

• Barbecue Dinner & Night Magic: Indulge in a traditional Turkmen BBQ dinner served right at the campsite. As night falls, witness the burning crater at its most spectacular — an absolute dream for photography enthusiasts.

• Under the Desert Sky: Spend the night immersed in nomad romance, staying in a traditional Turkmen yurt or a comfortable tent campsite under a canopy of stars.

Day 2: Darvaza Gas Crater → Ashgabat

• Desert Sunrise & Breakfast: Greet the morning with an optional pre-dawn visit to the crater. Watching the first rays of light clash with the dying embers of the pit provides a spectacular opportunity for final photos. Afterwards, enjoy a hearty breakfast at the camp before we depart.

• The Desert’s Hidden Wonders: We begin our drive from Darvaza towards Ashgabat. En route, we will make short photo stops at the fascinating Water and Mud Craters. Take a moment to marvel at these unique natural desert bubbles before leaving the vast sands of the Karakum behind.

• Bespoke Ashgabat City Tour: Upon arrival, embark on a private, fully tailored tour of the capital. Your expert guide will design a bespoke route to maximise your time and match your personal pace.
