FAQ

Do I need a visa?

Yes, a visa is required. We provide the Letter of Invitation (LOI) free of charge, which is essential for your application. Please note that the actual visa fee is paid separately at the border or airport upon arrival.

Please submit an enquiry via the website; we will then confirm the dates and request the documents required for your Letter of Invitation (LOI). The booking is confirmed following coordination with our manager.

Included in the price: Letter of Invitation (LOI), travel insurance, accommodation, 4×4 transport, guide services, entry fees, and daily breakfasts. Dinner is only included during the desert stay (Darvaza).

Our itineraries cover the whole country: from the Darvaza crater and Yangykala canyons to the Dinosaur Plateau and Ancient Merv. We offer both classic programmes and bespoke expeditions to the most remote corners.

We recommend bringing US dollars (new, clean bills), as cards are rarely accepted. Internet access is limited; we will help you get a local SIM card, but be prepared for a temporary “digital detox.”

  • Light cotton clothes are best for the day. For overnight stays in the desert (Darvaza), a warm jacket or fleece is essential, even in summer. When visiting mosques, shoulders and knees must be covered.

  • Footwear: Comfortable trainers or trekking boots are recommended for walking through canyons and ancient ruins.

  • Protection: Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are mandatory.

  • First Aid: Bring a personal supply of any required medicines, as your usual brands may be hard to find in local pharmacies.

Turkmenistan is one of the safest countries in the world for travellers. The crime rate is extremely low. Regarding photography: you are free to photograph nature and historical sites. However, taking photos of government buildings, military sites, airports, and railway stations is strictly prohibited. At markets and in crowded areas, we recommend asking for permission before taking photos of local people.

For desert trips and remote locations (Darvaza, canyons, Koytendag), we use comfortable 4×4 SUVs (Toyota Land Cruiser or similar). For city tours in Ashgabat and intercity transfers, sedans or minivans may be used. Our drivers have years of experience in desert and off-road driving, ensuring your safety at every stage of the journey.

The most comfortable months are March to May and September to November. During this time, you avoid the extreme heat, making it perfect for visiting canyons and archaeological sites.

Breakfasts are included in the programme. Other lunches and dinners are paid separately (except for the dinner at Darvaza). The average cost of a meal is 3–8 USD. We will always recommend the best local spots with quality food.
